About Us

Welcome to our page!
We are celebrating our 20th year as a nonprofit organization in the Halifax community. This is a huge milestone to have achieved, and we're very grateful and appreciate of the staff, students, teachers, our director Heather Crook, and the numerous community members who have assisted us along to the way. We truly wouldn't be here without all of you.
You've seen our mission statement and vision statement on the introdcutory page, so we'll discuss other matters here. Halifax CTC receives their funding from Dauphin County Department of Drug & Alcohol Services to service Halifax & Millersburg Area School District. Her office is housed in our school district, which gives her direct and immediate access to students to complete club activities and to classrooms to complete in-person instruction. Her contract from the county has her teaching in all of our buildings in the Halifax Area School District (Elementary, Middle, & High School), as well as offering instruction to Millersburg Elementary students. You can view our other pages to get more detailed and specific information regarding some of the programming and clubs that are taught and offered to students. We should note that what is taught each year is dependent upon results from the PA Youth Survey (PAYS), and from the requests of the county. Therefore, some programs may be taught or removed from the contract per the guidance and direction of Dauphin County Drug and Alcohol.
Outside of the school district, we host many community events throughout the year. Common events include: Halifax Trunk-or-Treat, Halifax Halloween Parade, Deck the Halls, Day of Caring (in honor or Michael Boyer), Splash Party (last day of school at the Halifax pool), Community Day, as well as many other events that we're asked to attend and/or co-host. Recently, we've been heavily involved with the Halifax Christmas Tree Lighting and co-hosting summer movie nights with the Halifax Area Recreational Authority on various Fridays throughout the summer. We're always looking for ways to expand our involvement within the community, so if you have an event in mind, and you'd be interested in having us participate, please contact us with more information.
Since we're a nonprofit organization, that means we really value our business partnerships. We've formed some great partnerships with many businesses in Halifax, and we're optimistic about forming more relationships with businesses. Our business partnerships have provided us with the opportunity to host many of our events at a very low cost or sometimes even free, and we can't thank them enough for their participation and involvement. If you work for a local employer and are looking for ways to contribute to local community affiliated organizations, then look no further. Again, reach out to us so that we can begin to hold conversations on what your interests and capabilities are because I'm certain that we can graciously work together to provide for our community.
While we've just spent a decent amount of time discussing Halifax, we are interested in expanding to neighboring northern Dauphin County communities. Our director is already teaching programs in Millersburg Area School District, so it naturally makes sense that we'd be interested in helping out more in that community. Our board of directors has also expressed interest in reaching out to the Upper Dauphin and Williams Valley communities as well. Many of the needs within the community are the same, so it just makes sense for us to begin entertaining the idea and concept of expansion. For the time being, we're asking that you contact us if you have events in mind that occur outside of Halifax. We'll see what other commitments we have already committed to at the time, and if we have the volunteer labor to participate in the event. Having said that, we're very exicted to begin making a stronger presence in our neighboring communities.
Since we've discussed our partnerships with local businesses and organizations, it is only appropriate that we also discuss how fantastic and wonderful our board of directors are. They are truly amazing and incredible people with massive hearts full of kindess! Honestly, if we didn't have the backing and support from our board, we'd be in much worse shape. Time and time again, they come through. However, our organization is being demanded more and more within the Halifax and neighboring communities, which means that we need more people. If you have any time or are just interested in getting involved to help make Halifax, and its neighboring communities better places, then please contact us. We'd love to you and your talents as much as possible! If you know anyone that you think you be a great candidate for assisting us in our mission, please also refer them to us.
The last topic we'd like to briefly discuss is our interest in starting an alumni board. We're looking to some of our past Halifax CTC alumni to see what level of commitment we can get from them. These individuals have participated in CTC while in school, so they know what CTC is all about and they know what it takes to make events happen. We'd love to have some of their energy, expertise, and wisdom as we continue to host both school and community events. If you're a Halifax CTC alumni and are interested in getting re-involved with us, please reach out. We'd love to have you around again!
There is no way our organization would exist or could've survived this long without the support that we've received. We look forward to many more years of being involved in the Halifax and neighboring communities, as we offer in-person programming within the local districts, and as we continue to expand our community presence through the hosting of events throughout the year.
To conclude, we'd like to reiterate our gratitude and appreciation for everyone who has made this happen! THANK YOU x a million!!!
