School Demographics:
Current student enrollment is approximately 1008 and professional school staff number over 105.  The district has three schools:  Halifax Elementary School for grades Pre K-4, Halifax Middle School for grades 5-8, and for grades 9-12, Halifax High School.  Our Enders-Fisherville Elementary and Halifax Elementary School were consolidated in 2019.   

School Budget Information:
The community is supportive of local education efforts and generates nearly $6.8 million in revenues each year toward the school district’s annual budget of approximately $19 million.   

Academic Summary:
Approximately 70 percent of high school graduates continue their education at two and four year post-secondary institutions. Remaining students enter employment, the military, or apprenticeship programs. Halifax students participate in state and national testing programs including the PSSA, NOCTI, Keystone Exams, and College Board Exams.

School Curricula:
High School course offerings are diverse and include a variety of options in English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science (STEM), Work-based Learning, Art, Music, Technology Education, Business Education, Health, Physical Education, and Family & Consumer Sciences. The district's partnership with the Upper Dauphin School District and Dauphin County Technical School affords students opportunities to specialize in several career and technical education programs. High School students can earn college credit through Advanced Placement and College in the High School courses. Middle School curricular offerings focus on reinforcement and refinement of basic skills with courses in Reading, English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Algebra, Science (STEM), Business Education, World Language, Health, Physical Education, Art, Technology Education, and Music.  Elementary students receive instruction in reading, writing, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, music, guidance, computer skills, world language, and art. All the district's students participate in the Discovery Character Education program. CAOLA, an online education program is available to all interested students in grades 6 through 12.

Extra-Curricular Activities:
The  following activities support the high school's academic program:  Band, FBLA (Business Club), Chorus, Conservation Club, Coral (Literary Magazine),  Drama Club, Environmental Club, FCCLA, Future Teachers of America, HiLite (School Newspaper), Indoor Guard, Language Club, National Honor Society, Percussion Club, Prom Club, Stand Tall, Student Council, Varsity Club,  and Wildcat (Yearbook).  Middle school extra-curricular activities include: Future Homemakers of America, Newsletter, Student Council, and Yearbook. A parent-teacher student organization supports a wide range of events. Elementary extra-curricular activities are sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Organization.  In addition to program meetings and various special events, the PTO sponsors Grandparent's Day, School Curriculum Fair, and a variety of educational trips.

Education Initiatives:
Halifax Area School District is committed to continuous school improvement.  Curriculum is reviewed and updated annually; assessment and student achievement decisions are data driven.  Much emphasis and support are placed on teacher professional development. Some recent improvements include:  Response to Intervention,  character development programs for elementary, middle and high school grades, team planning for all grades, data analysis activities to enhance student achievement,  Reading Recovery, technology integration to support student learning,  Advanced Placement and College in the High School courses for high aptitude students,  an induction program for new teachers, and implementation of a Student Assistance Program.

Additional Information:
Class sizes are less than 25 in elementary and secondary classes.  Free school bus transportation is provided to students. School breakfast and school lunch programs are available with free and reduced priced meals for qualifying students.  A Pre-K Counts-Early Childhood Education program is available to eligible families.  Developmental and personal guidance services and basic school health services are provided to students.  A comprehensive education program to serve special needs children is provided.  A parent-school liaison group operates in each of the schools.  The district is committed to continual improvement through PDE's comprehensive planning process.
