• Musical Groups @ the High School

The Halifax High School and Middle School Choruses have a proud history of fine choral singing. From the gifted hands of Mr. William Blackway who directed the choruses in the 1950s to the inspired teaching of Mrs. Sally Lisi who directed from the 1960s until 1995, the Halifax Choruses have performed hundreds of concerts and fostered the talent of many excellent musicians.

Mr. Mark Zimmerman, a talented Broadway, movie and television actor is a Halifax native and former member of the Chorus. We are proud of you Mark!

Mr. John Rupp, a recent Halifax graduate and former chorus member, makes a living as a guitarist and vocalist. He has performed with Hootie and the Blowfish and Bon Jovi. Way to go John!

Many of our chorus students have been chosen to perform internationally with programs like American Music Abroad and Voices United. Halifax students have excelled for years at the County, District, Regional, State and All Eastern level in singing competitions. Many of our Halifax Chorus students have pursued music beyond the HS level.

The Halifax Chorus has fostered the singing talent of many of the area’s finest singing families. It was here at Halifax that Sally Lisi helped to train the voices that would go on to become the Family Circle and the Harmony Express. It was also here at Halifax schools where families like the Geyers, Kobels, Kindts, Poffenbergers, Shoops, Stills, Hoffmans, Prouses, Markels and Lyters began to make a musical name for themselves.

Who could forget the Enders brothers--Mark, Raymond and Doug. This talented trio cut their musical teeth here at HHS and have been performing ever since.

The list goes on and on. Halifax is a community where musical excellence has been a tradition for many years.

The Halifax HS and MS choruses are currently under the direction of Mr. Clint Funk. Mr. Funk is a Halifax native and HHS graduate. Mr. Funk attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Mr. Funk is sought after as a conductor, composer and performer. Mr. Funk and his friend Dr. Todd Hoover wrote the musical Round The River’s Bend to celebrate the Halifax Bicentennial. Mr. Funk often composes and arranges for the choruses at Halifax. He has conducted and performed locally, regionally and internationally.

It is Mr. Funk’s hope that each student passing through the doors of HMS and HHS will take the time to explore their musical abilities by joining chorus and becoming involved in music:

“Be part of the tradition of excellence!”
