HALIFAX AREA ATHLETIC COVID-19 REOPENING PLAN (as of June 23, 2020) - Summmer and Off Season
Why are you recording practice attendance? In the case of a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case, we will be able to do use contact tracing to determine which coaches and athletes were potentially exposed. All potential exposures would be notified in accordance with HIPPE confidentiality laws.
What if a(n) coach/athlete has symptoms of COVID-19? If an athlete begins to show symptoms during a practice, they will be isolated from others and sent home. Anyone who feels ill should refrain from coming to practice and should contact their primary care physician’s office for guidance.
Are masks required? All coaches and staff will be required to wear a mask as long as it is not detrimental to their health. Student-athletes are not required to wear a mask, but must practice strict social distancing.
What does social distancing look like at practices? From arrival to departure, students must remain at least six feet away from each other during gatherings. Students must also refrain from high fives, fist bumps, elbow bumps, chest bumps, or alike. No hands to the face, spitting, gum chewing, seed chewing, or alike is permitted.
What about hydration? All students must bring their own water bottles. No bottles are to be shared. Coaches have access to water coolers in the green phase (our current phase), and will be able to refill bottles. Students will not be touching the water coolers and coaches will not be touching students’ water bottles.
