Shine Time is a 30-minute block of instruction where students are grouped according to their skill level. Students are either being remediated or enriched during this time. Most teachers and instructional aides facilitate these groups. The groups remain fluid, meaning that students can be moved from one group to another based on data showing progress.
Kindergarten groups consist of handwriting practice, letter recognition, working with beginning sounds in words, blending and segmenting words, sight word practice, and using comprehension strategies when reading and writing.
1st grade groups include Guided Reading Plus (which is a small group intervention for students who need more support with reading and writing strategies), word fluency, writing, and accelerated reading.
If you have any questions about the placement of your child in his/her Shine Time group, please contact me or your child's classroom teacher.
